Product Description

Oil on canvas, presented in an ornate gilt frame.

A charming Victorian era still life depicting a cluster of richly coloured pansies set against a softly atmospheric background. The composition is enhanced by delicate naturalistic details, including butterflies in flight, adding movement and a romantic quality typical of late 19th-century decorative painting.

The work is executed in oil on canvas with visible brush texture and a warm, muted palette characteristic of the period. The painting bears an indistinct signature to the lower left, likely incorporating a date reading “’92”, suggesting circa 1892.

The reverse retains the original stretcher and dealer’s label for Thomas B. Worth & Co., Fine Art Dealers and Artists’ Colourmen, Cathedral Yard, Exeter, supporting a late Victorian origin.

The painting has been carefully restored, and the ornate gilt frame has also been sympathetically restored, preserving its period character while presenting beautifully for display.

Condition:
Original canvas, restored
Painting cleaned and restored
Frame restored with age-appropriate patina retained
Some minor age related wear consistent with period
