Antique Continental Mountain Landscape Oil Painting in Rococo Revival Gilt Frame c.1900
Decorative Continental landscape painting on convex board, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, presented in an ornate Rococo Revival gilt composition frame with oval aperture. The painting depicts an idealised mountainous landscape with steep rock formations, a slender waterfall, and calm water in the foreground, framed by trees and foliage. The scene is rendered in rich green and ochre tones, creating a serene and atmospheric composition typical of decorative interior works of the period.
The gently convex surface is intentional and period-correct, designed to enhance depth and light reflection when displayed. The richly ornamented frame features scrolling foliate decoration and retains a warm, aged gilt patina, complementing the romantic subject matter. The reverse shows an original board backing with surface wear and an old hanging fitting, consistent with age and use.
